12:01 pm
love to hate. his points range from the second amendment to mcdonald's. this is about 1.5 hours. [applause] >> thank you so much. [applause] thank you, thanks everybody. [applause] >> i can't leave the liberals got some system already. are you kidding? [laughter] i'm so honored and delighted as i introduce my new book, "50 things liberals love to hate." this book is about liberals. not democrats who are often not that much different from republicans in many respects. this book is dedicated to the peculiar brand of american self identifies as a liberal, with as was light as liberal and wishes more of us in america were liberal. think about michael moore.
12:02 pm
think nancy pelosi. think about your local college professor. the driver of that crazy car with all of the bumper stickers on the back of the car. you get the picture, right? they dominate professions lead a cultural imprint in this great country of ours. professionalism, journalism, academia, and the music industry, and america's fastest-growing brand of entertainers, cirque du soleil acrobats. who are these people that call themselves liberals? and how to such a tiny group leave such a big impact on our culture and lives? what motivates them? well, i am in an excellent position to answer these deep questions. because i have been watching liberals closely for over 30 years. i have studied liberals like
12:03 pm
jane goodall studies are gems. [laughter] in their natural habitats and without judgment. i have broke bread with them, have teased them, and yes, i have even blogged some of them because some of my best friends are liberal and some are even members of my own family. my commitment to understanding liberals sometimes worry that my dear conservative friends. some even question my mental health. but i read in the new yorker magazine, i went to see the regina monologues, i have listened to npr whenever i got the chance. i learned everything that i could just by tuning into all things considered. [laughter] and even watched my carbon footprint.
12:04 pm
as much as a guy in a well cooled home in dallas can watch his footprint. what i learned? i learned that liberals simply don't love many things about this world. they are endlessly trying to correct, pics, men, and adjust every aspect of other peoples daily lives. i learned that they spend a whole lot of time thinking about america's fault and how to correct it, about america's ills and how to cure them, liberals love to hate things that most americans love. and they spend the rest of their lives trying to take those things away from us, and they are convinced that they do it all because they love us. thus was born this book, "50 things liberals love to hate." i hope you will enjoy it. if you could build a time machine and go back in time, not too far, say 50 years or so, if you are told that the first american you saw, men would walk on the moon, we would all carry
12:05 pm
video phones the size of a deck of playing cards. i guarantee that the response would be really? poor people are fat? because poor people are supposed to be skinny. rich people in america today like old photographs of four people during the great depression. the poor people look like the corpulent trouser bursting cartouche -- cartoon sketches of the 1930s. some of them think that i'm a fat person and say that we should pass laws preventing this kind of obesity, and create ways to federally subsidize weight-loss programs. who do they blame? they blame mcdonald's. why is that?
12:06 pm
because they sell delicious and fattening cheeseburgers and fries along with salads and mcnuggets an awful lot of other things, even the beloved happy meal is under assault. under assault by politicians all around the country and by some who call themselves scientists. one group of the very official sounding name, the center for science in the public interest, threatened to sue mcdonald's if they did not stop serving happy meals. they equated what mcdonald's was doing was child abuse and even worse, equated to child molestation. stephen gardner said in a prepared statement, he said it is a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction. let's face it, it was gardner's statement that sounded creepy. the fact is that liberals hate mcdonald's and its competitors because they symbolize everything about america that they load. our entrepreneurial zero, a
12:07 pm
level of convenience and our ability to inspire and support businesses that can be franchised across the globe and provide millions of jobs. but they really hate that last part. the jobs. they call them mcjobs. many americans have worked out a mcdonald's or one of its competitors. that is something that truly alarms liberals. it's not clear why, working there is a great way to learn customer service. but for liberals, that is a big red flag. it knows no limits. and his gross documentary, supersize me, morgan spurlock, yes, that's his real name, he did mcdonald's so much that he decided to eat mcdonald's food and only mcdonald's food for 30 straight days, three times a
12:08 pm
day, and what happened? well, surprise of surprises, he gained 24 pounds. now, i suspect that would have happened had he decided to eat at ihop three times a day for a month. but the fact is that morgan wasn't interested in anything but vilifying mcdonald's. why didn't he, i wonder, choose to eat ice cream sundays instead all day everyday and do a documentary about that or cheese or canned ham. that would not have made morgan spurlock payments. that would not have made him the michael moore of his generation. come to think of it, he should have followed michael moore around all day. [laughter] now, that would've been fun to watch. the truth is what it really does was supersize morgan's bank account.
12:09 pm
as a capitalist, i am all for that, even if he is not. the food fascist love to hate our mcdonald's. but many other potential targets are spared. starbucks, which sells sugar carbohydrates and high calorie coffee drinks, are somehow curiously exempt from the fast food teacher hatred that you hear about from liberals. in other words if you get fat on a double quarter pounder with cheese, liberals are going to start passing laws banning things. if you get fat on mocha latte is, liberals are perfectly delighted to look the other way. what they both represent his american ingenuity and entrepreneurial risk. both of them took something that all americans love and figure out a way to serve it faster and better than anyone else. serving up food that is
12:10 pm
delicious and fattening which requires individuals to exercise self-control, personal responsibility, liberals hate that with a passion. all of that hate wrapped up in a cardboard box, with melted cheese, little ketchup, a pickle and some fries on the side of it if you are a liberal and you are feeling a little bit hungry right now -- i have some bad news for you. you just might be a conservative. [laughter] now, let me make a confession. sometimes when i find myself in a very liberal part of town, you know that part of town that i'm talking about, yoga studios, deegan on board bumper stickers, that kind of thing. i always make sure that i am wearing my american flag lapel pin, somewhere really inconspicuous. kind of a silly little game to play with myself in them. i am feeding him, i realize
12:11 pm
that. but for some reason i just can't help that. liberal people really hate these american flag lapel planes. they hate it more than the actual american flag, it seems to me. in those the same neighborhoods, you see the american flag flying high in some places. but maybe it is because the lapel pen is in your face, it's personal. it is in a place that it is not usually found. i'll ask someone a question and i will see their eyes flicker from my face to my lapel and i will see that look, you know the look i'm talking about. what is wrong with this guy? probably some kind of america free. i bet he is one of those right-wing nuts, too. it's almost like i had a swastika on my lapel. but surely, that is not why they hate it, is that? when i wear my american flag lapel pin, i always do it in public. i'm not making a big political
12:12 pm
statement. although you probably have a good idea of who i prefer. the american flag lapel pin that i wear just means this. i am grateful to live in a country that honors and protects freedom. that offers boundless opportunities for citizens and does its best to nurture the noble parts of the human spirit. when i wear my pin, when you get right down to it, i love my country. maybe that is why liberals hate it so much. you know, they have the vocabulary down and they know how to frame it so that it sounds like a declaration of patriotic feeling. i love america, they will say, and then they will say i love the idea of america. then comes that inevitable but. and the parade of inevitable as still follows. all of the things that america has done to let them down, the injustices and feelings from the moment that the pilgrims landed on plymouth rock to the election of george w. bush.
12:13 pm
[laughter] i have to wonder if liberals do this with their wives, i love you but that extra few pounds each on your heads, they weren't there when we first met and it would be great if you lost them. that is the kind of guy that women really love, right? liberals have reservations about everything america. when they see an american flag, they automatically put an asterisk next to it. yes, but we are too rich in our cars are too good and we drive too much and we eat too much and we are just too american. yes, we saved europe and our beacon of liberty to the world. but we don't recycle enough and we are too religious to be a really sophisticated country. during his run-up to the election, then senator barack obama got more than a couple of flags waved. there was the scene of him standing in a stage of iowa, were citing him -- all but one
12:14 pm
had his hand over his heart during the national anthem. that was barack obama. he explained in independence, iowa, he said, and i quote. my attitude is that i'm less concerned about what you're wearing on your lapel than what is in your heart. well, again, try that with your wife. i love you, but i'm not buying you those big diamond earrings because i'm less concerned with what you wear on your ears and what's inside your heart. president obama was asked again about the pin in an interview in cedar rapids, iowa. he said that the truth is is that right after 9/11, i have been. shortly after 9/11, particularly as we are talking about the iraq war, that became a substitute
12:15 pm
for true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security. those are his exact words. yes, he said that. it just kept getting worse. the pin he said he didn't like, he actually used to live like until everyone in america started liking him. he said that in that interview. he actually referred to the american flag lapel pin as a backend. >> i won't wear that pin on my chest, instead, i'm going to try to tell the american people what i believe will make this country great and hopefully, that will be a testimony to my patriotism. >> you heard it right. you heard it right. he called it back in. a little bit like bill clinton referred to monica lewinsky as that woman. do you remember? [laughter] [applause] to but not severe and not to worry. president obama came around. that pin he stopped wearing.
12:16 pm
it is one of those cheesy things that you have to do as president, i guess. when he returned to civilian life, sooner rather than later, i hope -- [cheers] [applause] i suspect the thing that people liked most is ditching that annoying little pin once and for all. after all, maybe he could replace it with the united nations flag pin. that simple little american flag pin. the thing is no better than a nickel, it drives liberals bonkers and makes them uncomfortable and it confuses them, too. here is a guy like me in their store or copy shop, who is smiling and being polite. understanding there with a tiny little american flag, minding my own business. in the most quiet and reserved way possible, but i that i am grateful to live in the united states of america.
12:17 pm
just sheer gratitude for the sacrifices of my forebears. gratitude for the opportunity to this that this country affords great gratitude to the men and women who serve the flag in the military probably an gratitude for being a part of this amazing and the noble experiment in democracy. look, liberals hate that. american to them is just okay. not good and not great, and certainly not exceptional. just okay. about as okay as sweden, but not as okay as france. when i walked out of the store or copy shop, i have to admit to myself that i chuckle a little bit because i can hear them behind me trying to figure it out. conservative women, not the ladies. [laughter] [applause] you know, if i ruling was an olympic sport, liberals would win the gold medal every time. to see some truly elaborate eye rolling, just drop the following words into your conversation.
12:18 pm
i was thinking about something sir palen said the other day. stand back and let the huffing and puffing and sighing and moaning begin. it could be something as benign as sarah palin thinks that panda bears are cuddly. the result is an automatic discussed at anything unturned it is a fact that they hate this new generation
12:19 pm
-- some of them just refused to show any gratitude, no matter what they have done for women. liberals worked so hard to break down the barriers of sexism. when sarah palin came onto the scene with her unique brand of cheerful conservatism, they had no choice but to attack her for her looks and her hair and her outfits and her accent and her education. her children and her makeup. for a group of folks that have tried so hard to eliminate sexism from the national discourse, they sure know how to use it when they need to, don't they? is the same with ann coulter. she's attacked for her looks and her hair in her way. since we are talking about weight, to notice the remarkable improvement over the years in the physical charms of women in the political ground. consider for a moment one of the first feminists to emerge in the early 1960s. now, fast-forward to 2012, a
12:20 pm
conservative writer, a quite a difference, wouldn't you say? the sudden ascension of sarah palin, until you consider that she was the enormously popular sitting governor here in america, when it comes to barack obama, even with a double large on, his words could barely take a page. [applause] my crackerjack research team got their hands just on that document read on barack obama's resume back in 2007 is looking to ditch his senate dagan move up. let me read a little bit for you. objective, leader of the free world. experience, 2005, 2007 u.s. senator. in the job description he wrote talked a lot, voted a lot. in 1997, 2007 -- university of
12:21 pm
chicago is what he wrote for his employers and he listed his jobs as constitutional law professor and civil rights attorney. he described his work as talked a lot, wrote a memoir about my identity crisis. he was also little sketchy about the years 1985 through 1987, saying it was hard to remember who he actually worked for. but he did say he was a community organizer and his job description was described as organizing people and to train people to organize. for education, he listed occidental college, columbia university, and harvard law. listed his grades is not available. his interests were basketball, marxist literature, writing about myself, talking about myself, making money, and saving the world. and the mainstream media fell in
12:22 pm
love with this highly qualified applicant. they fell in love with him because they liked the trifecta of the first black male liberal president. it didn't hurt that he went to the college is that the mainstream media adored. sarah palin attended all kinds of colleges, she was a sportscaster, helped her husband, became mayor, and one becoming the first woman to serve as government in the state's entire history. but the media went after her wetter than swoon like they did with president obama. katie couric tried her best to derail sarah palin. she spent a full day with her. she asked sarah palin what newspapers she read. she didn't name any that katie couric approved of. so she did love.
12:23 pm
this is different. it was sarah palin. katie couric had what she wanted. can you imagine if katie couric had exhibited the same deal with president obama? imagine that she spent a full day with him and asked him some questions like how many soldiers are there in a battalion? after some stammering, k.t. not katie could have followed up, that you are asking this country to make a commander in chief, you have no idea how many men are in a bit -- battalion? i'm sure john mccain does. but katie couric sisterhood only applies to liberal women. when palen did get the nomination, you would've thought that katie couric, barbara walters, diane sawyer, and the pack of shrill shrew is on "the
12:24 pm
view", okay, elizabeth doesn't count, but they said that sarah palin was every liberal woman's worst nightmare. they hate them because they don't comport to the official liberal version of womanhood. if only these mouthy women would just go away. luckily for us, they are not going anywhere. jericho. [applause] the south, the racist rebels and rednecks. in 1767, the mason-dixon line has served marketplace where the northlands in the south begins. there is a more accurate way to know for certain where exactly you are. get into a car, drive and go
12:25 pm
east and south. at some point, someone is going to start calling you sir or ma'am, and that is when you know you are in the south. governors are just white like that. they sir and ma'am each other all the time. they have a million ways to say thank you, and my favorite is i appreciate you. as i heard a guy say to me in atlanta. actually, what he said was i appreciate you, sir. they are thoughtful and polite, southerners honored tradition and god, liberals positively despise them. it is true. liberals hate this out. speaking with a southern accent is another way of saying, hey, i'm a racist or when liberals here are stuttering, what they are saying is, hey, i'm about to talk about jesus. what a liberal brain actually
12:26 pm
hears is that i am a slow witted hillbilly without a thought in my head. you know, think about he hamid's mississippi burning and you get the picture of the south. inside the average liberals had. the american south is a dark and scary place filled with klansmen and embrace and trailer parks and bad sheriffs. from the movies and tv shows they make regularly to the thinly veiled arrogance and the pages of the newspaper. liberals cannot imagine the south is anything but a kind of place that you'd best you best avoided. because of your car breaks down or you are on a rafting trip with friends -- [laughter] nothing good can happen in the south. once that creepy kid with the banjo starts playing, it is all over. all bets are off. it is easy for liberals to characterize the south that way
12:27 pm
because so few of them ever actually go there. maybe a quick stop on the way to hilton head island. liberals didn't take a wrong turn and end up driving through the real south, the south and i know, they get a very different and disturbing picture of the modern american south. maybe that is what they need to do to really understand a country that they seem to hate so much. it would be a surprise for them to accept that the modern south has excellent restaurants, major international banks, research centers and top-rated universities. they would be amazed to see how up to date as always. they even have dennis and cable tv. [laughter] if we could somehow just march the urban smug liberal or mississippi, we could stop for lunch at one of the many delicious places to eat. then show the liberals on thing they might not expect to see. white and black folks eating together, often at the same table. that happens a lot in the south.
12:28 pm
you will see a racially integrated crowd. it will be diverse to use a word that liberals love. it would disturb liberals to realize that the south is a heck of a lot more integrated than some of the coastal cities. it is not memphis or mobile that is stuck in segregation, it is l.a. and new york. for the past decade, african-americans from the north have been moving south in huge numbers. it is a total reverse of the great migration of the 1940s and 1950s when large parts of the southern black population moved north to places like chicago, detroit, and new york. but now blacks are coming back to this out. impossible, they cry. don't they know that the south is full of rednecks and racists? will black people know to the contrary is that the south has much better jobs and a better economic future and more importantly, it's a better place
12:29 pm
to raise their children. put it this way, kids don't learn to say thank you and liberal public public schools. they learn that in places like montgomery and greenville. the mason-dixon line still shows up en masse. but some think it is better to be on the southern side. how much better? the numbers do not lie. according to the latest census figures, the south was the fastest growing, up 14%. that is why factories open in southern states like alabama. that is why atlanta, georgia, is a hub of international media and commerce. the american liberal ensconced in his decaying but calculus hates the south. whether it is germany,
12:30 pm
outstripping korea, hong kong, taiwan, singapore, outshining impoverish malaysia. this has been the universal truth of history. ..
12:31 pm
we will be liberals hate success for a number of reasons, including the fact that they hate competition and everything that comes with it. too liberal there is no such thing as true competition, and is assisting as letting a valuable life lesson from losing in fact, losers must be told that they are not run or that they lost because to do so would hurt their precious self-esteem. a mindset that is running release. if everyone is special what you're really saying is no one is special. think about that for a moment. in their obsession with stamping of billiard liberals have sent out failures close companion, success. without failure success is meaningless.
12:32 pm
it is a vapor. can that happen. in 2010 and spent a few days on my radio show to talk about high school graduations and the issue a valedictorians. valedictorians, an issue, did some valedictorian go on the crime spree? some kind of an argall bench? no. it turns out, shockingly, a whole bunch of schools in america think that having just one valedictorian is mean-spirited and not inclusive. the other having multiple. before i proceed want to turn to the good folks at merriam-webster to get a definition of the term valedictorian. the student usually having the highest rank of the graduating class. when i went to school there was one valedictorian who had the highest grade. then there was the salutatorian had the second-highest rates. they both made speeches are graduation date. really bad speeches.
12:33 pm
[laughter] then there was me. it was a miracle i got any grades at all. flash forward, 2010, jericho high school, l.i., new york. one valedictorian would simply not do for this particular school off. they went with the seven instead. seven valedictorians. the explanation was the move pushed by the parents, students? it turns out it was one guy who was the principal. he did not like having just one. he said, when did we start saying that we should limit the honor so only one person gets the glory? well, principal, americans have been saying it for hundreds of years. in new york times story a more interesting. it turns out public-school administrators across the country beginning to side with poor old joke. here in southern new york times dispensaries and beyond those serving the trend. recognizing multiple
12:34 pm
valedictorians reduces pressure and competition among students and is a more equitable way to honor achievement, particularly when number one and number five may be separated by only the smallest fraction of rage from south or science. liberals do things like dispense with beloved traditions like the valedictorians him and then decide for all of us up to create more equitable ways to honor achievement. i wondered as i was reading that article, why stop at and a? what about the students to kimberly ) a? what to cause a lot of emotional damage? and let the kids to get a closer getting beat. it turns out that lyons has cooling colorado pretty much agrees with this garbage. they had ten valedictorians last year. and the stratford high school in the suburbs of houston pretty much agrees with this insanity as well. they honored 30 valedictorians.
12:35 pm
six and a half percent of their entire class in 2010. they all got cold on our courts. thirty valedictorians. i thought i was mad at principal joke. he looks positively stingy with his near seven. positively victorian. not just the public schools. this is spreading into but with richard companies. general motors. actually, americans did take gm, didn't they? rebels of the car company and we still on a huge chunk. take the big banks. we can have them fail because way beyond keeping score at the little league game liberals its success and his first competition. and if they have their way we will all be playing a scoreless game of life scandinavian style with cradle to grave entitlements with the variation in income. >> the second amendment. this is easy.
12:36 pm
liberals are not crazy about most of what is in the u.s. constitution, but it's it to say that what they hate the most is the second amendment. but start with the complicated text of the second amendment. this could take a very long time. a well regulated militia. the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall representative be infringed. [applause] pitbull that's it? twenty-seven words? that is where there are so exercised about? twenty-seven words in english words cannot be all that hard to understand, but they managed to confuse the heck of liberals. liberals see all kinds of possibilities and interpretations, ways to regulate in ban handguns and rifles, to force states to register gunrunners, prohibits sales and transfer him in other words, that 27 word sentence the
12:37 pm
key words to which our security, free state coming in right of the people and shall not be infringed, liberals see in those words ways to undermine security, constrain the state and infringe the rights of the people. it is pretty impressive. you have to hand it to liberals. they converge just about anything. let's take away. but we have that. recall that the national guard. the national guard is a great thing. it's nice to know that some are supportive of a sudden as they often disparage talk came up president george w. bush service and a branch of the guard during the vietnam era, but what the founders were talking about was the necessity of raising a militia at any time which would require the citizens supply their own weapons. the founders knew that weapons is to be among the citizens are safer and more effective than weapons captain a government controlled are very. the framers also liked the idea of a bunch of states. each with its own idiosyncratic
12:38 pm
touches all linked by a republican republican governments. ian the states unless the citizens of the individual states have a fair amount of say about what goes on inside their borders. it's possible that it opens up the possibility, the opportunity for certain states to vote to ban to regulate certain weapons of some have done, but the framers and to encourage this kind of varied and is often zany difference between the states. liberals said that because it means certain states like utah and texas might be conservative and have a right wing loss. it also means the crackpot lefty states like massachusetts and vermont can mandate pre-eminence for everyone if they want. that is not enough. the only kind of free and there really like is the freedom to make you do what they tell you to do. the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. i could have a howitzer in my front yard. he right wing gun nuts are crazy. well, yes, i'm sorry. shall not be infringed is not all that vega phrase, is it?
12:39 pm
it means, just to go over all the more time sellout be infringed. you can't infringe it. it is voted is. we although the howitzer in the front yard argument is completely off topic anyway because no one is talking about regulating how it's is in the yard. people don't have those, but they have rifles and handguns. those are what liberals want to take away. here is why they want to take them away, to protect us. that's right, to protect us. nice of them, isn't it? here you were thinking you could protect yourself. according to last count about 30,000 people die annually in gun related accidents. that number, 30,000 annually in gun related incidents. about 45,000 die in car crashes. 37,005 from poisoning, 20,000 a year die from unintentional falls. the framers of the constitution
12:40 pm
to say that guns are dangerous. they are, especially to the invaders and despot's and thieves, but they were necessary. that is what they said. that is what liberals it the most what the second amendment, it's necessary. it reinforces the constitutional motion of a free and sovereign people. citizens of the country, a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. pretty much every single word in that sentence is what gives liberals the heebie-jeebies. that is why they hated. of the other hand 20,000 people die every year from unintentional falls. maybe the framers should have banned the ladders. simple fact is, freedom is dangerous. more guns and less crime. author john lopper been places where there are more guns in the hands of lawful citizens there's less crime. having a gun and brandishing it actually prevents all kind of crime in america. crimes that did not happen
12:41 pm
because a gun was displayed. anyone who knows anything those criminals are cowards. they don't like a fair fight. criminals like picking on the -- they like digging a little old ladies and night clerks who work alone. a gun, the great equalizer. a single mom with a goddess carrier that an nfl linebacker without one. [laughter] that that is not just a legal theory either. among most of us truly love to except liberals. one night january 2010 the couple of parks decided to celebrate the beginning of the new year by breaking into the trailer of a young single mom, 18 year-old sarah mckinley. recently lost her husband and living alone in a trailer with a three month old son in blanchard , oklahoma. that is exactly what the bad guys chose her, because she was alone with her baby, all the books. tens of she had some companies that the president anticipated. their names were smith and

[laughter] [applause] sarah was packing. she had a shotgun and pistol, and she was not afraid to use either to defend herself for baby. she called 911. >> i've got two runs in my hand is it a pity should it becomes an historic. >> you have to do whatever you can do to protect yourself. i can't tell you that you can do that. you do what you have to do to protect her baby. >> you do what you have to do. she killed one of those many of the runway, a frightened coward. now fortunately she lived in a gun from the conservative state. not an anti-gun states like massachusetts. liberals don't care what the constitution says. they don't care about facts and the assembly don't care about the sarah mckinley's of this world of their right to keep and bear arms, their right to protect themselves. the right of the criminal trying to robert wallow, that is
12:43 pm
another story. the suburbs, little pink dollhouses and little dull lives . as the liberal why he is the suburbs and those put out a bill of particulars. they have always hated j.c. penney, macy's. you have to be kidding. that is nothing compared to their contempt for a strip malls. i know what you're thinking. if you have a best buy, panera bread, bed bath and beyond, and target all in one place to raise anything else. did all the necessities and one place, they enjoy the fresh air as you walk from shop to shop. some even have a buffalo welling said so you can snag a tranquil your wife spends an hour picking a new shower curtain. but is not to love. morelos and have an aneurysm yor what they say about the rest of the strip malls. they hit the big box stores because they're to corporate and
